Brisket vs. Roast Beef

Last night at a work function one of my coworkers commented on how delicious the roast beef was. I would have second that sentiment; however, they were serving beef BRISKET not roast beef  Bless his heart…..

SO, that prompted me to write a blog about the differences between the two for those meat virgins out there. But, before I get into the meat of this (pun intended); I have to admit that I have never actually prepared either but hope to do so in the near future!

Brisket is a cut of meat from the breast or lower chest. While all meat animals have a ‘brisket’, the term is most often used to describe beef or veal. The beef brisket is one of the eight beef primal cuts. The other seven are as shown in the image below.

Marge’s Interpretation: Brisket reminds me of southern people with no teeth. I can’t say why it just does. I really enjoy brisket but probably wouldn’t say “hey, I feel like some brisket today”.

Roast beef is a cut of beef which is roasted in an oven. Roast beef is often served within sandwiches and sometimes is used to make hash.

Marge’s Interpretation: I would prefer to eat roast beef in a sandwich vs. sliced nicely on a plate. It reminds me of my mother making yummy French Dip sandwiches to dip in au jus! My friend Kim can’t pronounce au jus so it makes me chuckle whenever I eat this dish.

The Ram

For those of you WSU Cougs out there, when you here someone suggest The Ram for a meal, you immediately think of a purple and gold dressed establishment with annoying Husky's everywhere. Well, this is true, but not at the Lakewood location! Who knew it was a chain... I sure didn't!

Anywho, I made a visit there with my boyfriend's family last weekend and enjoyed one delicious piece of meet, burger that is. I ordered a Black Angus Prime burger complete with honey-peppered bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and grilled onions. I don't really think the bacon was honey flavored or peppered, but it was still tasty all the same. I am super picky with burgers and typically do not order them when out to eat but I figured I was at a place known for their burgers so I would take a chance. I had a side salad instead of fries to keep my girlish figure for my best friends upcoming wedding. Bridal bootcamp is serious business. The BF got the fries and they looked really good - steak cut and seasoned just enough

I also had a zesty locally brewed beer on the side. A 71 Pale Ale.
- Distinctly drinkable Pale Ale brewed with a touch of rye and a blend of 5 hops. Deep copper in color with a subtle spicy rye character and an enjoyable hoppy flavor. YUM!

For desert we shared a Mile High Mud Pie between 4 people. It was absurd. It really WAS a mile high and served with a heaping side of warm fudge. It was a little messy but such a treat!

Marge's Rating: 3 stars and would go back but never to the University Village location (Go Cougs!).
