Its that time of year yet again where cute, wide eyed little girls are mustering up the courage to ask "um, do you want to buy some girl scout cookies?".
They are pretty cute aren't they? But those little girls hold a lot of power.
It used to be easier for me to avoid them when they were just outside one of the grocery store entrances... I would just use the other one! But they have gotten smarter. Now they tag-team and cover all of the entrances, so that you have nowhere to hide! I had to pull out some of my "when dining alone" tricks like pretending someone is calling me or checking my Blackberry, digging around in my purse for nothing, looking around for a companion, etc.
I find it especially challenging to avoid them when I am participating in Lent. Its like they were put there to test me and my will power. Terrible timing. This year I gave up cookies.
They have also infiltrated commercial foods like Dairy Queen's Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookie Blizzard, and Dreyer's Girl Scout Cookie Ice Cream (Samoa - my favorite!). I mean, WTF? They are everywhere, even banks now (talk about the perfect local!). They remind me of those creepy little toe head kids with the red eyes in Village of the Damned but instead saying "cookies... cookies" whilst chasing after me in slow motion! YIKES!
So far I have successfully avoided the cookie brigade at two grocery stores and Bank of America. I wish you all the best of luck in your avoidance adventures and if you fall into their trap and buy "just one box", I wish you the best of luck.
Happy Thursday!

I have fallen victim to our neighborhood cookie crusader and purchased 3 boxes, which were eaten in 3 days. I was going to blog about how mad I am at the girl scouts today because I'm feeling a bit bloated...maybe I'll mention you!~
This post really made me laugh! Good luck Nargie, I am avoiding them as well!
Ha! I bought two boxes from my bosses daughter and they are currently hidden in a drawer till after Lent because I gave up chocolate and purchased samoas and tag alongs. I have been successful with the "while dining alone" tactics as well. I also do it with petitioners...good luck this weekend!
Ha! I avoided them too!! At Fred Meyer yesterday they had a sign that said "last day of cookie sale" and I almost caved, but held back because I know they would have been gone in 2.2 at my house.
